While a lot has been said about the workloads of the players and the quality of cricket played in such a short duration, Asia Cup 2018 managed to keep fans engaged with a few thrilling moments.

What started off as a TRP ploy to pit India against Pakistan thrice while 4 other teams would just play around, didn’t end the same way. There were moments throughout the tournament when the other teams competed and competed hard.

Here’s a look at 5 moments that defined Asia Cup 2018

  1. Tamim Iqbal batting with a fractured finger.

Graeme Smith batting with a fractured finger, trying to save a test match is a memory etched in the brains of every cricket fan of this generation. Tamim Iqbal in the very first game of the tournament got hit on the finger causing 2 fractures. However he came out to bat later in the innings like a brave Bangla tiger and thus instilling a burst of energy in the team. Massive respect for this heroic act by Tamim.

  1. Sri Lanka bowing out early

Sri Lanka hasn’t been in the best of form recently, add to that the constant chopping and changing captains and other off the field issues. This tournament was a great opportunity for them to leave all of this behind and redeem themselves, but that wasn’t the case. They lost the tournament opener by 137 runs to Bangladesh after being bowled out for 124. They lost their second match to Afghanistan became the first team to get eliminated

  1. Anshuman Rath- Nizakhat Khan partnership

An associate nation clinching their first major tournament victory since 2011, the Asia cup Qualifiers 2018 won a lot of hearts this tournament. Hong Kong playing against one of the best teams going around put up a brave fight. Chasing 285, the Hong Kong openers Anshuman Rath and Nizakhat Khan scored a 174 runs. This did scare a lot of Indians. However this wonderful partnership couldn’t be converted to a historic victory as they later crumbled against the Indian bowling. Nevertheless, that partnership showed a lot of character and will always be remembered.

  1. India Afghanistan tie

Afghanistan has to be the unluckiest team this Asia cup. They were close to victory on so many occasions, yet couldn’t finish it off. One such game was the last game of the super four. It was a dead rubber game but things became interesting as Dhoni came out as captain and led the side for the 200th time. This closely fought contest came to a nail biting finish with 1 run required of 2 balls. Ravindra Jadeja hit one in the air through the gap, and the ball reached the hands of the only fielder in the deep. India was all out and the game ended as “Match Tied”

  1. India Bangladesh final- The ultimate thriller

There is something about India Bangladesh finals that it always ends in a thriller. Asia Cup 2016, Dhoni sprints to the stump to effect a run out. 2018 Nidahas trophy, Dinesh Kartik gets 29 off 8 balls to take India over the line, not to forget the 6 he hit off the last delivery.

This final was yet another roller coaster ride. Bangladesh batting first got an opening partnership of 120, but then went on to collapse and end up with a score of 222. India needing 223, started of with their premium openers and set the sail on course. However, the fall of a few wickets caused a few problems. Kedar Jadhav pulled his hamstring and had to leave the field. However, he came back with India requiring 11 runs to win and later required 1 run of the last ball. Kedar Jadhav ran it Dow the keg side to win the tournament for India as India lifted the trophy for the seventh time
